Director of Fun !!!

Yeah thats right. Sounds like a dream job doesn't it,"Director of Fun". Well it's a dream come true for a youngster from Leicester who applied for the post of the director of the Rail Museum in York. And yeah, I forgot to mention his name - Sam Pointon, Age 6!!!

Here is the Man himself at work and the letter he wrote to apply for the job. Talk about being ambitious.
"I am only 6 but I think I can do this job" - Wow!! This is one confident kid.

And his qualification for the job include among other things that he has an electric train track and can control 2 trains at a time.

But the parents of this train crazy kid had a tough time convincing him that he still had to go to school despite landing his dream Job. That just Blows!!!

Warren Buffett's biggest bet !!!!

How big is the bet??

$26 Billion!!!

Thats right Warren Buffett made his largest investment yet buying out Burlington Northern Santa Fe, a Texas based railroad company.

Well he has definitely turned heads with this investment and it is not in the least because of the size of the investment but more so because of the sector. Trains.

The growth of the railways spearheaded the industrial revolution across the world. But when most of the world thinks the heyday for the railways is over. Here is Buffett thinking otherwise.

He says it is the most efficient way to transport goods. A ton of goods can be transported for 470 miles in one gallon of diesel.

Wow!! that is the solution for the impending global energy crisis.

Also he says in this day and age when pollution is a major problem each train can take away 280 truck of the road.

He has done his research and he has placed his bet. He also seems to suggest it is the safest bet for the world.

When Warren Buffett talks you listen.

Do not Stand at my grave and weep

Well today is the 8th of November and I turn 23.Just one of those days. Suddenly I remembered this poem my Mary Fyre. Its a beautiful poem and I thought I should put it up on my blog.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.

The Irrelavance of God

This piece of article tries to argue that man’s eternal quest to prove/disprove the existence of God is one of the histories most wasted endeavours because it is still not going to change anything significantly. I have tried to use logic to argue my case. I have also taken up the Christian faith in the second part my argument because

1. It is the largest practiced faith in the World

2. It is the faith I was born into, the faith I am most familiar with.

First, let me introduce to a Pascal’s Wager.

Blaise Pascal was a renowned mathematician and physicist who lived in the 1600’s. He used decision theory to argue his case that people should lead a life as if god existed as it was the only option in which he had everything to gain and nothing to lose.

God Exists

God Does not Exist

Live life as if God Exists (Good Life)

+∞ (Heaven)

0

Live life as if God doesn’t exist (Evil Life)

-∞(Hell)

0

Here he assumes the existence of God cannot be determined. He assumes it is more like a coin toss. There is a 50:50 chance that god exists. So given these assumptions the conclusion is that leading a good life i.e. Live life as if God existed is the most profitable option to bet on since we have nothing to lose if god does not exit and everything to gain if he did. (And we maybe betting with our eternal lifeJ)

Here Pascal makes no difference between a believer and an atheist. Any person who leads a good life will go to heaven irrespective of their faith.

Now this brings me to the second part of my argument. In the Bible God is described as being

1. A Jealous God*- he does not look favourably on people worshipping other Gods

2. A Just God**- he judges the whole humankind the same way

The decision tree for these 2 situations is like this

A Jealous God

Believer

Non- Believer

Live life as if God Exists (Good Life)

+∞ (Heaven)

-∞(Hell)

Live life as if God doesn’t exist (Evil Life)

-∞(Hell)

-∞(Hell)

A Just God

Believer

Non- Believer

Live life as if God Exists (Good Life)

+∞ (Heaven)

+∞ (Heaven)

Live life as if God doesn’t exist (Evil Life)

-∞(Hell)

-∞(Hell)

Now my argument that if a God exists. He must be perfect in all respects (It is Blasphemy to think otherwise). So how can such a God be guilty of one the 7 deadly sins – Envy (Jealousy). It is impossible that a God exist and send a good man to hell just because he didn’t believe in him.

Thus the concept of a Jealous God can be rejected.

Conclusion:

1. 1.1. The existence of God itself can neither be proved nor denied. Assuming there is equal probability for both. The greatest gain can be got from leading a good life. Also there is nothing to lose choosing this option.

2. 2.2. If God exists he is going to be a Just God. He will Judge you and reward you based on how you lived your life here on earth and not on what you believed in.

3. 3.3. So leading a Good life is more important. If you do that everything else really doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter whether God exists or not. It really does not matter what religion you follow, actually there is no need to follow one.

4. 4.4. So the Concept of God or Religion becomes trivial – Irrelevant.

Disclaimer: I am not trying to say whether God exists or not. All I am trying to say is that it really does not matter, only the way you live matters.

*Exodus 20:5 - “for I the Lord your God am a jealous God”

**Psalm 9:8 – “And He will judge the world in righteousness; He will execute judgment for the peoples with equity.”

I have always believed you really need not make too much noise about your brand for people to remember it. You can always come up with creative, innovative and inexpensive ways to do the same. Looks like Playboy believes in it too.

Here are 3 really creative examples of marketing that'll blow your mind away.

1. Ever wondered how it would be to feature on the cover of Playboy??

2. Simple but Crystal clear communication ;-)
